Project Overview

The works consisted of full encapsulation, abrasive blasting and recoating of the radar tower structure. The works covered the supply of two unrelated ablutions blocks at RAAF Base Darwin: one within Transit Camp 2 (ie “Tin City”); and the other adjacent to a training room recovered from IDC Berrimah.


  • Complex scaffolding including offset standards and cantilevered platforms above 20m required to access all of the tower structure.
  • Pressurisation of the pedestal (lube) room to eliminate ingress of grid dust and grains
  • Care around operating RADAR waveguide
  • Maintaining maintenance access for RAAF RADAR technicians
  • Managing RADHAZ while working just below the radome itself.


  • No LTIs
  • No impacts to air traffic control operations
  • Delivered PWD enabled facilities at RAAF Base Darwin
