Project Overview

The works consist of the installation of permanent emergency shower and eyewash facilities at the RAAF Base Darwin Radar tower.

  • A 630m section DN150 water main was installed to provide a permanent water supply to the site, fire hydrant and two emergency washes
  • Associated works included pressure pumps to guarantee adequate pressure and routing alarms back to the air traffic control tower

    Challenges

    • Integration of pressure alarms into remote monitoring point
    • Safely attaching insulated water supply line to the radar tower structure
    • Water system isolations
    • Working airside in an operational aerodrome
    • Working at heights during scaffold erection/dismantling
    • Interaction between mobile plant and workers
    • Erecting, maintaining and dismantling scaffold encapsulation to eliminate paint dust from leaving the work area

    Successes

    • Project completed before target completion date and under budget
    • No LTI’s
